A strong commitment to client service and excellent communication skills are imperative to be successful in this position. Individuals interested in the position must be compassionate, cheerful, and have a good work ethic. Occasional evening and weekend hours required. The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for 2 certified Veterinary Technicians at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). The LVMC provides specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents and interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work in teams to provide 24-hour, state-of-the-art care to animal patients.

Basic veterinary technician skills are expected, including but not limited to, venipuncture, peripheral intravenous catheter placement, performing basic physical exams, knowledge of appropriate species normal vitals, and appropriate animal restraint. Some familiarity with the common veterinary equipment such as blood pressure monitors, EKG machines, and gas anesthesia machines are also necessary. Some exposure to the more advanced skills such as urinary catheter placement, more developed triage skills, challenging patient restraint ability, multiple site capability for IVC placement, etc.

We are looking for an experienced technician who wants to join 2 CVT's in a a hospital that is dedicated to active learning and advanced medical procedures. This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule – although you will be asked to work some evenings and occasional Saturday shifts will be required.
Candidates must have experience in the following areas: venipuncture, pharmacy duties, lab work, radiology and handling medical records, with additional experience in surgical assistance, maintaining & monitoring anesthetized patients. Top priority will be given to LVT or CVT candidates, although all candidates will be considered.
