Full time Veterinary Technician/Assistant
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a veterinary technician to work in our surgical area full time. Qualified candidate should ideally be certified. Years of practical experience will be considered in lieu of certification. Candidates should possess a high level of skill, be able to work independently in a fast paced environment, have excellent communication skills, possess a keen attention to detail, be a quick learner and be able to work as a team member. The ability to lift and carry animals up to 55 pounds is required. Prior animal shelter experience is a plus but not required. We offer competitive pay and benefits and good working environment. Veterinary Technician - Surgery

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for two certified Veterinary Technicians (60096M and 60157M) in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). The LVMC provides specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents and interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work in teams to provide 24-hour, state-of-the-art care to animal patients.

This position provides care and assistance to pre- and post-operation small animal surgery patients under the supervision of Clinicians and House Officers at the Iowa State University Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center. Areas of surgical care include but are not limited to orthopedics, soft tissue, ophthalmology and neurology. Responsibilities include supervising and assisting students to complete tasks and develop daily planning for the service. The technician will also instruct and demonstrate veterinary techniques to veterinary students and will provide assistance to veterinary clinicians and investigative staff in their treatment of animals, teaching, or research functions. This position will also cross train with other technician positions throughout the hospital and fill in if needed in other areas.

The successful candidate will possess multi-tasking skills to manage patients and students during procedures; demonstrate attention to detail for managing cases, scheduling, and performing or supervising procedures; have the ability to identify patients and the suspected procedure needed; and possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, clients, referring veterinarians, faculty, and staff members.

Certification as a Veterinary Technician is required.A veterinary technician specialist in Surgery; clinical experience as a veterinary technician in surgery; experience within a veterinary practice and/or research related facility as a veterinary technician; experience with medical technical procedures, such as IV’s or urinary catheter placement, venipuncture, etc.; academic experience working with animals; front office experience which demonstrates communication skills; experience with Microsoft Office; record keeping experience, such as inventory, treatment sheets, lab logs, equipment, etc.; supervisory experience; laboratory experience with PCV, TP, chemistries, etc.; experience with equipment monitors, such as IV pumps, syringe pumps, Pulse Ox, Dopplers, ECG units, etc.; experience, training, or demonstrated skills in critical care nursing for ill, injured, or post-op hospital patients; and animal husbandry experience to include overall care and/or nutrition of animals, are all preferred.

Veterinary Technician – Small Animal Intensive Care Unit
