The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking an experienced cat person to head up the ARL’s progressive cat intake, foster and adoption programs. Qualified candidates should have extensive experience with cats and be trained in cat behavior. Veterinary technician experience with cats or cat handling experience is required. Experience with feral cats and feral cat colonies is desired.

Responsibilities for this position include:

Oversight of the cat/kitten foster program, including crisis foster situations
Oversight of the cat behavior modification programs
Working with feral cats and feral cat colonies
Recruitment and training of foster homes to care for behavior-challenged cats, cats with special medical needs, prenatal kittens, and cats who need a break from the shelter
Other tasks as assigned to help cats become ready for adoption


Applicants should be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, have excellent organizational and communication skills, be able to work as part of a team, and have a positive attitude. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and shelter management software. Prior animal shelter experience is a plus. Veterinary Technician - Surgery

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for two certified Veterinary Technicians (60096M and 60157M) in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). The LVMC provides specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents and interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work in teams to provide 24-hour, state-of-the-art care to animal patients.

This position provides care and assistance to pre- and post-operation small animal surgery patients under the supervision of Clinicians and House Officers at the Iowa State University Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center. Areas of surgical care include but are not limited to orthopedics, soft tissue, ophthalmology and neurology. Responsibilities include supervising and assisting students to complete tasks and develop daily planning for the service. The technician will also instruct and demonstrate veterinary techniques to veterinary students and will provide assistance to veterinary clinicians and investigative staff in their treatment of animals, teaching, or research functions. This position will also cross train with other technician positions throughout the hospital and fill in if needed in other areas.

The successful candidate will possess multi-tasking skills to manage patients and students during procedures; demonstrate attention to detail for managing cases, scheduling, and performing or supervising procedures; have the ability to identify patients and the suspected procedure needed; and possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, clients, referring veterinarians, faculty, and staff members.
